Analytics tooling for mid-market retailers
Northwind Labs builds reporting and forecasting software used by regional retail chains to plan stock and staffing. The engineering team is small relative to the customer base, which means engineers here talk to customers directly and own features from design through to support. Hiring is deliberately slow and the interview process is unusually transparent about scope and pay.
Written-first: decisions are documented in short proposals before meetings. Core hours are 10:00 to 15:00 UK time with flexibility either side. No on-call rota for product engineers.

You talk to customers directly, which is unusual and makes the work feel connected to something. Two office days is genuinely two, not a slow creep back to five. Progression is less structured than at a larger firm, so you have to ask for it.
Pros: Customer contact, written culture, honest interview process
Cons: Progression framework is thin; tooling budget is tight

Coming from a company where everything was last minute, having decisions written down before meetings has been a genuine relief. Managers here read the documents.
Pros: Planning discipline, flexible hours, supportive manager
Cons: Small company means occasional single points of failure
We do not publish second-hand interview scripts, because they age badly and often describe a process that has since changed. What holds up is preparation aimed at the company's actual context: software, at 120 employees.
Read the overview above and the open roles below, then prepare two examples that map to the responsibilities that appear repeatedly across their listings. Repeated requirements across several adverts are the clearest signal of what the organisation actually values.
Our behavioural interview guide covers the questions that appear in almost every process, and the salary negotiation guide covers what to do when the offer arrives.
